What is UNIX?

Unix is an open source operating system. Which has first developed in 1960 s and its development process continues to date.

Unix system also have GUI but all operations are not handled by the use of GUI. GUI use is just for user friendly.

Versions

There are may different types of UNIX versions are available in the industry. The famous UNIX versions are :
  1. Sun Solaris
  2. GNU/Linux
  3. MacOS X
Normally Solaris is used in servers and workstations but Fedora and Linux used in servers and Desktops.

UNIX operating system made of three components, They are kernel and the shell and application programs.
